Our TYO tradition of honoring our seniors at our Spring Concert was interrupted this year. So this past week we made special deliveries!
Our 2020 Tallahassee Youth Orchestra Seniors
Hali Alex
Post-graduation plans- Study Music Education at LSU
TYO Experience- Joining TYO was one of the best decisions I have ever made. When I started playing the clarinet I was very afraid to stand out and play loud, but TYO allowed me to break out of my shell and make great friends. I also want to say thank you to Mr.Miller for pushing me to be a better musician, you are an inspiration in my musical journey.

Gareth Chamberlynn
Gareth has been accepted at FSU where he plans to obtain his undergrad in Earth Sciences, and later a Master's in Environmental Engineering so he can work on clean energy solutions. To Gareth, music is a collective expression of creativity. He plans to audition for the Marching Chiefs so he can continue on his musical path.
Sam Halbert
Over the years she has evolved from Samantha to Sami and now prefers Sam. She will graduate from Rickards High School International Baccalaureate program this May. She is ranked 20th out of 292, the top 10% of her graduating class of 2020. She is an amazing, strong-willed, passionate young lady. She is part of the National Honor Society started a GSA club at her school and is still involved with Girl Scouts since she was in kindergarten. She is a violinist and has been part of Tallahassee’s youth orchestra for 4 years. She is sad to miss out on her final TYO concert and so many senior activities, saying goodbye to friends that will disperse in so may directions to attend university. She was accepted to UF, Missou, UCF, New college, but she is looking forward to attending FSU this fall.
Julia Hernandez
In the fall, I will be attending the University of Chicago. I'm not sure what my major will be, but I plan to stay involved in music by auditioning for the orchestra and maybe even pursuing a music minor!
I've had the pleasure of being a part of TYO for ten years. In TYO, I've learned musical skills that I'll use for the rest of my life: the patience to practice a tricky passage and the courage to perform that passage onstage; the confidence to lead from the back of the section and the humility to lead from the front; the list goes on and on. But, to me, TYO is not merely a musical organization, but a community: the parents who volunteer every Sunday with a smile, the coaches and conductors who instruct and inspire, and of course, the students, who are some of the funniest, smartest, kindest, and most talented people I've ever met. To you all, I say thank you. It's been a wonderful ten years!
Carolyn Matthews
I will be attending South Eastern University, in Lakeland, Fl, in the fall of 2020.  I will be majoring in Film Production and minoring in Spanish.  I enjoyed playing beautiful pieces with TYO and being a part of a winds ensemble for one year.  I have made some amazing friends, learned a lot about music from Mr.Miller and Mrs. Ayca, how to play in a group, and also how to be a better person.  I will take what I learned from this group and apply it to when I go to college. I am thankful I had the opportunity to play with TYO.

Isabella Matthews
After graduation, I will be attending Belmont University in Nashville and will be studying violin performance.  I have been in TYO for 2 years and it has been a great experience.  I have gotten to expand my repertoire and play in so many concerts.  I have also met some amazing people through TYO and I’m very thankful for that.  I am sad we didn’t get a final show but I’m glad that we were able to perform the previous shows.
Jovey Osagie
I've been accepted into Howard University, FSU, and IU. I plan on attending FSU in the fall of 2020, majoring in Music Education. TYO has been an essential stepping stone for my growth as a musician.
Jordyn Ridgway
Though I was accepted at USF, UCF, UA, and Stetson, I plan to stay in Tallahassee and study communication disorders at FSU and participate in the various music opportunities offered by FSU. TYO has given me amazing memories and some of the best friends over these past 12 years.
Chase Rowe
I have been accepted to Indiana University, Oberlin Conservatory, Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences, and Florida State University. I plan to attend FSU this fall majoring in Double Bass Performance. I would like to thank Tallahassee Youth Orchestras for providing me with a wonderful musical outlet to interact with and learn from wonderful musicians, allowing me to grow as a musician myself. I would also like to thank Mr. Chris Miller personally for everything he has done for me and helped me to achieve.

Bella Stoddart

I have been accepted at Flagler College, in St. Augustine FL. I plan to major in International Studies.  My experience at TYO has given me the opportunity to make many close friends, and it has also allowed me to play amazing music with wonderful and talented teachers.  Music has shaped me as a person by teaching me how to focus, and how to express myself without words.

Levi Vickers
I am graduating from Florida State University School, and will be majoring in Brass Performance at USF.  My plan is to earn a PhD in music and one day play for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. TYO has provided me with great experience playing for new people and has given me the confidence I need to excel as a musician in an ensemble. Mr. Miller knows the benefits of music, and I would like to thank him for helping to ensure I could keep playing with TYO.  Professor Paul Ebbers, our brass coach, has probably been the single most impactful person in my life. He taught me the role music has in the world, along with teaching me how to play the tuba. He is the greatest man I know and will always have a special place in my heart.
