Artists-in-Residence
The TYO seeks to enhance our students’ musical growth by exposing them to performing artists of the highest caliber. The highly successful residency of violinist/composer Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) in March 2009 set in motion a commitment to bringing fresh and innovative experiences to our student body. Our artists-in-residence for the 2009-2010 season will include one local ensemble—enhakē and one ensemble from Brooklyn, NY—PROJECT.
enhakē
enhakēThe TYO has recently become home to ensemble-in-residence “enhakē.” enhakē (from the Seminole [Creek] word for sound or call) is comprised of clarinetist Wonkak Kim, cellist Jayoung Kim, violinist M. Brent Williams, and pianist Eun-hee Lee. This distinctive instrumentation allows enhakē's musicians the flexibility to perform repertoire from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras to the most captivating contemporary works.
In the less than two years since its inception, the group has collected an impressive array of honors, including the Grand Prize at the Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition (2009), Gold Medal at the International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition (2008), Judges’ Special Recognition Award at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition (2008), and the James and Lola Faust Chamber Music Scholarship (2009). enhakē has also received American Composers Forum’s Encore grant and FSU’s Musical Associate Grants. Following its acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut at the 2008 ICMEC Winner’s Concert (Weill Recital Hall), enhakē has quickly established itself by concertizing throughout the United States and Costa Rica.
This distinguished group of musicians fosters a strong commitment to youth and education and the TYO is honored to claim enhakē as an affiliate of our organization. As part of the collaboration, the members of enhakē will serve as guest clinicians for TYO ensembles, will hold master classes throughout the year for our students, and will perform on chamber music concerts with our students.
